Amaia Romero Arbizu is known on stage by just her first name Amaia. She was born into a musical family in Spain. Her uncle is a choir director and her aunt is a singing teacher. Amaia studied classical piano at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Navarra. She started entering singing competitions at an early age, including 'Cántame una Canción' (2010) and 'El Número Uno' (2012). In 2016 she was vocalist on the single 'Cicatrices De Mi Realidad' with the Navarrese band Lemon Y Tal.In 2017, Amaia won series nine of 'Operación Triunfo' and several of her singles from the show were released, notably 'Shake It Out' which reached number 15 in the Spanish Singles Chart. As a result of winning the show, Amaia went on to represent Spain in the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest, singing 'Tu Cançion' with Alfred Garcia. This reached number three in the Spanish Singles Chart. Also in 2018, the singles 'Al Cantor' and 'Perdona (Ahora Sí Que Sí)' were released from the Eurovision selection show. The latter was a duet with Carolina Durante. Amaia's first solo single 'Un Nuevo Lugar' (2018) was popular on music streaming services with over three million streams, and her second single 'El Relámpago' (2019) was streamed over a million times in the first two weeks of release.Artist biography compiled by BDS/West 10.
