Helsinki isn’t often referred to as a hotbed of hip-hop like Toronto or London, but Finnish rap artist OPA could very well change that perception.
Born in Oulu, Finland before spending his youth moving around through small villages, OPA began rapping at just 12-years-old, quietly sharpening his production and songwriting skills during school. While in prison serving a three-year sentence in his early 20s, OPA started taking music seriously and began writing material that would end up on his debut album “FREE OPA” in 2018. Since then he’s been consistently releasing, merging visual lyricism, swaggering production, and clever bars, OPA soon became one of the hottest new artists in Finland, racking up 2 million+ streams and 20K monthly listeners
“I want to give you hope for a better tomorrow, you must never stop reaching your goals,” says OPA. “I want people to see light through the darkness. No phase of life determines you as a human being.”
