British Jamaican writer / producer / vocalist Carla Marie Williams (AKA Carla Marie) is a woman on more than just one mission. She is a prolific songwriter who has written for some of the biggest artists in the world. Penning hits such as “Freedom” on Beyonce’s (2 x Grammy-Award Winning Lemonade album) and other acts such as Sean Paul, Craig David, Paloma Faith, Rudimental, Britney Spears and Naughty Boy. She is also a respected visionary, changemaker and mentor, championing opportunities, equality and diversity for women in music and creative industries, with a focus on celebrating, elevating & giving visibility to black women.
Carla founded ‘Girls I Rate’ in 2016, a female movement that champions women in the music and wider creative industries whilst pushing for positive change and equality for female creatives. “My mum migrated from Jamaica to the U.K. growing up, she would always push me to pursue my dreams” says Carla. “She introduced me to sports, music, my culture and heritage from a young age. I want to live out this legacy and help to create new pathways for the next generation of young women in the U.K, Jamaica and throughout the diaspora.”
