Johannes Bügeleisen is a Berlin-based singer-songwriter and producer.
Since his beginnings in 2010, Johannes Bügeleisen has slowly drifted from his formless tape drone and noise roots, increasingly favouring catchy melodies, rolling vocals, and grooving beats - a dark humour never far from the surface.
Sunscreen is the inverse cyclic sequel to his 2017 album Night Drive. A concurrent manic counterpart: heat-brazed, smoked-out, and above all sleazed-up. The scorching noon sun has all but melted away the cold and cautious melancholy of the night. You can almost hear the sizzling, sticky city streets as Johannes slyly weaves through torch-style trip-hop ("Afterhours"), frantic trancehouse ("Glass Eye"), and vaudeville ragga ("Cat Call"). This break-neck character jumping is compounded by an unwaveringly minimalistic production, allowing Johannes's soft yet deep voice to be simultaneously sensual yet unsettling.
Sunscreen completes the journey started in Night Drive in the most unexpected of ways.
The two albums will be released together on C60 cassette by Baby Satan Records on August 30th, 2018.
The release party will be at August 30th at Sameheads Berlin, including a live show by Johannes Bügeleisen and a DJ set by Molly Nilsson.
